

Born in Anderson on July 26, 1952, Cathy was born to Sybil and George Thompson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness and warm spirit touched everyone who knew her. She married the love of her life, Robert Lucas, on October 2, 1999, and together they shared many cherished years filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Cathy was known for her strong work ethic and caring heart. Over the years, she worked as a waitress at Angie’s Spaghetti House, and also worked at Carolina Mills and Pharr Yarns. Most recently, she worked alongside her daughter Shelly at Always Successful Cleaning, something she truly enjoyed.
More than anything, Cathy loved her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Robert Lucas; her children, Shelly Sherbert and Michael Sherbert (Christy); her grandchildren, Shana, Amanda, Brian, Mickala, Courtney, Christopher, and Josh; and 14 beloved great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
She is also survived by her brothers, Clifford Thompson and Charlie Thompson; and her sisters, Shirley Stevens and Dale Thompson.
Cathy was preceded in death by her children, Beverly Wilson and Ray Sherbert; ex-husband and father of her children, Donald Sherbert and siblings, Faye Bradley, Joanne Caldwell, Danny Thompson, George Thompson and Robert Thompson.
She will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, and the many lives she touched through her kindness and compassion. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm. A committal service will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
