Charles Earnest “Chuck” Gibson, age 74, was born to Franklin Blain Gibson and Zadee Bella Stokes Gibson on the 18th of June, 1946 in Charlotte, NC. He passed into eternal rest on February 18, 2021 with his beloved wife and best friend of eighteen years at his side; Pamela Sims Gibson.
At a young age, Chuck enlisted in the National Guard where he retired after thirty-eight years of service, his rank Brigadier General which included one tour of duty in Iraq during “Desert Storm”. He was a graduate of the National War College and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also earned his Masters degree from Winthrop University.
After retiring from the service, Chuck obtained the position of Human Resource Manager at Service Corporation International for the last seventeen years. He was a man of honor and integrity and was respected by his colleagues.
As a professional Chuck told you like it was, he held himself to a high standard and was intent on holding those around him to the same. He was a man to be trusted, he was rich with integrity and thoughtfully chose his words when he spoke. Chuck was a dear friend to many, he was grateful for the opportunities life presented him and although he tried to hide it, his heart was large and filled with kindness. He was humble, never knowing how much he was admired and the impact he made on others’ lives.
Chuck’s passions were; the “Tar Heels” he was a raving fan, his love of fine food and fine wine, military history, and baseball. When traveling with Chuck, you could find him searching out the nearest MLB stadium or a cemetery seeking out old historical military graves. At any dinner attended with Chuck, he was the only one you wanted selecting the pairing of the wine. Over the years, Chuck would lend a hand at Arthur’s Wine Shop and share his knowledge with the many customers that frequented the store.
His civic involvement included American Legion, Post 30, in Lincolnton.
Chuck enjoyed spending quality time with his devoted wife Pam; his stepdaughter, Gina Renee Barrier; and his step-grandson, Graham Walker Fleming, both of Morganton, N.C. He will also be remembered by his cousin and friend; Bud Greene; and two sisters.
