

She was a teacher for the joy of educating young people… Charlotte Simmons Long taught English and Math in the Gaston County School System for over 25 years. Mrs. Long age 82, went to be with her Loving Savior on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate of Western Carolina University. In high school and college she was known for and voted Best Dressed in her class. Charlotte loved antiquing, yard sales and auctions. She and her husband would refinish furniture they bought and resell it. It was her passion. She was a lifelong dog lover and loved her animals. A wonderful wife of 57 years, a loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Long will be remembered by her family for her laughter, her delicious cheesecakes and antique treasures that she generously shared.
Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Earl Simmons and Ethel Denton Simmons.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Sherman Long of Gastonia; one daughter: Connie Long of Gastonia; three sons: Joseph “Joe” Long and wife, Linda of Dallas, Mark Long and wife, Susan of Dallas, Michael “Mike” Long of Dallas; two grandchildren: Heather Hovis, Meredith Long and her special four legged friend “Mitzi”.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 10, 2017 at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverend Perry Huffstetler will offer words of comfort to the family.
