Claude William Styron, 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, October 7 at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy. He was born July 21, 1927 in Greenwood County, SC to John Henry and Estella Alexander Styron. Over a long career he worked, among other places, for Merita Bakery, Borden Dairy, and Charlotte Aircraft Corporation. He was an active and faithful member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister, Bob, John, and Lillian, one son, Ray Styron, one grandson, Nathan Styron, and one great-grandson, Evan Burgin.
He is survived by his wife of many years, Ellen Styron, one brother, Jim Styron, four sons, Gary (Jan), Ricky, Henry (Renee), and Harold (Candra) Styron, two stepsons, Sam (Peggy) and Jim (Gilda) Burgin, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is remembered as an avid sports fan, a hard-working provider, a generous and compassionate family man, and a warm, sociable, charming and witty friend and neighbor.
A service will be held Thursday, October 11, at 1 PM at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home Chapel, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte with the Rev. Gene Boatwright officiating. Carothers Funeral Home of Gastonia is handling arrangements.
