Darrell Lloyd Whitley, 63, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, December 17, 2017. Darrell was a devoted family man. They, especially his grandchildren, brought him immense joy and spending time with them was the greatest gift for which he could ask. Darrell’s faith was an important part of his life and it guided him to his wife and in all he did. He was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darrell was a jack of all trades that enjoyed working with his hands. A welder by profession, Darrell used his skill to help others in any way he could. He stayed active and busy for as long as his mind and body would allow. Darrell loved to walk and spent much time visiting with neighbors. When the opportunity came to spend time walking at the beach he was often found searching for hidden treasures in the sand. Darrell was a modest, kind and humble man. He will be greatly missed by many.
Darrell is the son of the late Leola (Sasser) Whitley and Leonard Lloyd Whitley.
Left to cherish his memory are his childhood sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Paula (Gosnell) Whitley, his son Scott Whitley and wife Cathi, and daughter Wendy Whitley. Darrell leaves behind four grandchildren: Shelbi, Preston, Alexis and Savannah Whitley.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 on Friday December 22, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia.
