

Born in Charlotte, NC on February 1, 1960, David graduated from Olympic High School with the class of 1978. He developed an art as a skilled printer and worked for many years in the printing industry, and at one point in his career, opened his own printing business in Athens, GA.
He loved his family and friends with a passion and would do anything for anyone that he could help. His unique sense of humor made anyone who knew him glad to be around him. Whenever his health allowed, his favorite pastimes were fishing and woodworking.
David is survived by his only son, Daniel (Katie); his brother, Roger (Cynthia); nieces, Crystal Hubbard (Jerry) and Melissa Berkebile (Kevin); and his special cat companion, Cooch.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Olin Rymer Hovis, his mother, Syvella Helms Hovis and an older brother and sister that died at birth.
A celebration of life service for David will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2:00 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Gardens, 2205 Williamsburg Dr., Gastonia, NC 28054. Family gathering and reception immediately following the service.
