

A man who served his country proud in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War who was a Helicopter Gunner and mechanic… He earned and received several medals of accommodation for his service to our country…Born on the 4th of July, Chip was destined to be a Patriotic American… Donald Ray “Chip” McCarthy age 68 passed Wednesday, December21, 2016 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Chip had a big heart and loved his wife, children and grandchildren immensely. His favorite store was Walmart. He loved hard ribbon Christmas candy, orange slices, and citrus orange marshmallow peanuts, didn’t like leftovers and had the Best sense of humor. To know Chip was to love him.
Chip was the son of the late Wilton McCarthy and Elizabeth Jarvis McCarthy. He also is preceded in death by one brother Wilton Anthony McCarthy.
Those left to cherish the memories of Chip are his wife of 30 years, Patricia Ann Setzer McCarthy of the home; one daughter: Elizabeth Eastridge McLeod of Ohio; three sons and daughter in law: Andy and Dawn McLeod of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Sandy McLeod and significant other Stacy Nelson of Cherryville, North Carolina, Randy McLeod of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; two sisters and brother in law: Teresa and Jay Elliott of Florida, Karen Moody of Denver, North Carolina; one brother and sister in law: John and Terrie McCarthy of Charlotte, North Carolina; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina with Timothy Setzer to deliver words of comfort to the family and friends. Active pallbearers are Christopher McCarthy USMC, Darren Setzer, Joshua Setzer, Matthew Guy, Joseph McLeod, Matthew Shelton, David Setzer and Jacob Buchanan.
Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Gaston Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the USMC and Gaston County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2016 in Stateroom II at Carothers Funeral Home.
