
Earl “Pete” Ray Swayney, age 63, of Gastonia, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cherokee, North Carolina and was the son of the late James and Helen Smith Swayney.
Mr. Swayney was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School in 1965 and a graduate of Belmont Abbey with a B.A. Degree in Accounting. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, he then enlisted in the North Carolina Air National Guard and retired after 24 years service. He was a long time member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Swayney is survived by his wife of 42 years, Terry Swayney; one daughter: Angie Cooper and husband Paul of Mebane, North Carolina; one brother: Jimmy Swayney and wife Jackie of Gastonia; two grandchildren: Will and Kasey Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 P. M. to 1:45 P. M. Sunday at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday at The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia with the Rev. Clarence Morris officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the North Carolina Air National Guard.
