

A beautiful lady inside and out who was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother to her family best describes Edna Thompson Leonard, 76 who passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 with her family by her side. Edna was born December 9, 1940 in Lincoln County to the late Elbert and Ida (Neal) Thompson. Edna was the eldest daughter of nine siblings in her family who lovingly called her “Sis”. Edna loved to read and listen to country music, especially any music by Waylon Jennings. When she could Edna enjoyed tending to her roses, watching the birds in her back yard from her porch and keeping up with friends from all over the country on social media. She and David loved to travel and they made many friends from all across the country. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory is her husband, David P. Leonard of 59 years of Dallas, NC; sons, Randy Leonard and wife, Teena of Dallas, Marty Leonard and wife, Karen of Dallas; grandchildren, Matthew Leonard (Kassye), Miki Whitlock (Shane), Thomas Leonard and Jonathan Leonard; great-grandchildren, Christian Leonard, Audrey, Aniston and Masen Whitlock; siblings, Bill Thompson (Linda), Charles Thompson (Amy), James Thompson (Juanita), Helen Thompson, Mary Leonard (Bill), Dorothy Richards (Robert) and Shirley Womble (Jack); sister-in-law, Mary Thompson; many special nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Thompson.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Rankin Lake Baptist Church. Reverend Jim Loftis will preside. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
