Pearl was born on January 4, 1940, in Shelby, NC to the late Elzie and Zula Hord. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter, Tanya Lynn Rand; and sisters, Cookie McDaniel and Sandra McTaggart.
Born with a generous heart and a joyful spirit, Pearl dedicated a year and a half of her life to serving in the United States Navy as a nurse’s aide. Her time in the Navy reflected her lifelong instinct to care for others—quietly, humbly, and with genuine compassion. She could be described as a social butterfly who loved to have a good time – usually being the life of the party. In her later years, she enjoyed reading or listening to a good audio book to pass the time by.
She is survived by her son, Pat Cole and his wife, Mandy; daughter, JoAnn Patton and her significant other, Tim Bergland; late daughter, Tanya's husband, Jon; sisters, Carol Withers and her husband, Ralph, and Helen Pack and her husband, Dennis; six grandchildren as well as eight great grandchildren.
