Evelyn Campbell

Gastonia – Flora Evelyn Owens Campbell, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Gaston Memorial Hospital on February 19, 2011. She was born on February 24, 1927 in Cramerton, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Flonnie Wade Owens, and William Edgar Owens, and Ottis Barker Owens; her brothers, William Edgar Owens Jr., Rev. Robert Malachi Owens, and Charles Ted Owens; and her sons, Sgt. Warren Dane Campbell and Leonard Steven Campbell; and lifelong friends, Clarence and Ruth McCarn, and Bud and Ella Mae Stowe.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Calvert Campbell; her son, Keith Campbell Sr. and his wife, Angelita of Wichita Falls, Texas; her daughters, (Terry) Elizabeth Campbell of Sunset Beach, NC; and Dr. Deborah Hudson and her husband, Gary of Gastonia. Grandchildren include Rachael Leigh Reagan, Jennifer Becton Certain, Monica Becton Dellinger, Amy Campbell Czubaj, Calvert Campbell Jr., Claudia Campbell, Tel Arroyo, Nancy Lopez, Angelita Colley, Elizabeth Nesbitt, Abel Bituin, Andrew Bituin, and Ernesto Bituin. She is also survived by 31 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In addition, she is survived by lifelong friends Sylvia and Larry Walt, Margaret and Sheridan Hill, and special prayer partner and family member, Brenda Hartsell.

Mrs. Campbell was a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school leader, nurse assistant, and also a professional wedding gown seamstress.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia. Burial will be private.
