

Frances Hope Petty, age 101, of Covenant Village, Gastonia and formerly of Bowling Green, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 with her loving family by her side. She was born in the Hickory Grove Section of Gaston County and was the daughter of the late Harry Lattimore and Annie Clemmer Hope.
Mrs. Petty retired from McLurd and Babington Insurance Company, Gastonia. She was a member of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church where she was a member of Circle # 1, served as the Treasurer of the Circle for over 50 years, served as President of Ladies Sunday School Class, Chairperson of Circle # 1, Treasurer of Bethel Presbytery, Typist for the Church Historian 1940-1989, Treasurer of Sunday School Class, Co-Chairperson of Women of the Church, member of the Bereavement Committee, Treasurer of Women of the Church, Recipient of Honorary Life Membership Award, Chairperson of the Women of the Church, Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary, Secretary of the Women of the Church, Secretary/Treasurer of the 50’s Plus Club.
The family wants to give a very special thanks to Dr. Ronald Digby and Staff and Covenant Village and Staff for their love and care given to our “Aunt Frances”.
Mrs. Petty is survived by her brother-in-law, James T. Ormand, Sr. of Gastonia; Nieces and Nephews: James T. Ormand, Jr. and wife Barbara of Gastonia, Hope Ormand Walsh of Charlotte, Frances Ormand McSwain and husband T. Cary of Blythewood, South Carolina, Debra Frye Ormand (wife of Harry L. Ormand) of Gastonia and Chris L. Hope, Jr. and wife, Linda of Monroe; Great Nieces and Nephews: James Tracy Ormand III, Kelly Ormand St. Pierre and husband David, Carl Lattimore “Latt” Ormand all of Gastonia, Lisa Walsh Elmore and husband Scott of Charlotte, James Patrick McSwain and wife Jennifer of Dallas, Caryn Hope McSwain Stepp and husband Josh of Columbia, Thomas Chapman “T. C. “ McSwain of Blythewood, Chris L. “Chip” Hope, III and wife Nicole, Carrie Hope Hargett and husband, Jack both of Monroe; Great-Great nieces and nephews: Bailey Hope Elmore and Sydney Brooke Elmore of Charlotte, Rilee Hope Stepp of Columbia, Nicholas Richards and Holden St. Pierre of Gastonia, Haley Ormand and Matthew Ormand of Lake Wylie, Jackson Hargett, Jacob Hargett and Christen Hargett of Monroe, Trevor Hope, Madison Hope, Tricia Hope and Katie Hope of Monroe.
And all of my beloved nieces and nephews of Carl K. Petty.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 P. M. to 2:45 P. M. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, 250 Ridge Road, Clover, South Carolina 29710.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Friday at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Aaron White and Rev. Dr. Joan Martin officiating.
Interment will follow at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Patrick McSwain, Thomas Chapman “T. C.” McSwain, Carl Lattimore “Latt” Ormand, James Tracy Ormand III, G. Jason Ormand, Chris L. “Chip” Hope III.
Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, Carl K. Petty; brother and sister-in-law Christopher Loyd Hope and wife Wilma, sister, Martha Hope Ormand, two brothers, Alfred Pugh Hope and Houston Hope; nephew, Harry Lattimore Ormand.
