Freda Cochran Cody

Freda was born in Pineville, NC on April 6, 1926. She was the daughter of Nettie Pruett and Marcus Cochran. And she was one of ten children. When she was 14 years old, her mother passed away. Some of her younger siblings had to go to an orphanage, while the older children went to work or to live with friends. Freda went to live with family friends. When her father remarried, Freda had to leave school and go to work.

During World War II she met and married John D. Cody, in 1943. They moved to Belmont and worked in the hosiery mills.

Freda loved her family, especially grand-children, great-grand children and great-great grandchildren. She was "Grandma" to everyone. She also loved sewing and crocheting. She was always working on a project or a gift to give someone. She loved to be on the go and enjoyed shopping and traveling. She had a sense of adventure. She went on several cruises, traveled to New Orleans, Charleston & Savannah, SC, Washington, DC, Florida, White Lake and the NC coast.

She is pre-deceased by her husband of 51 years, John D. Cody and a son, Daniel A. Cody. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis

C. Wise and husband Dan, grandchildren, Angela Hollis and Mark Wise and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Also she is survived by her son, Scott D. Cody and grandchild, David Cody. And survived by her son And survived by her son, Daniel A Cody's children, Larry Cody and Daniel Cody and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Carolina Point in Chapel Hill for their care and support of Freda this year.

Freda is remembered for her love of life, her love of traveling and especially her love of her family.

Visitation will be held at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054, US, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. Following the visitation, a Committal Service will be held at Gaston Memorial Park at 12:00 pm.
