Frederick Charles Snellenberger

Fred was born on December 19, 1946 in Lasing, MI to the late James and Rosemary Snellenberger. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Marie Snellenberger.

Fred was a family-oriented man who was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always put his family first and was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. Fred had a special gift for fixing anything and everything. There was very little he couldn’t figure out, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed him.

Fred proudly served his country in the Army, a service that was an important part of who he was. He was a man of strength, dedication, and honor, and he took great pride in seeing his son, Roy, follow in his footsteps and serve his country as well. Fred was a wonderful example for Roy and was proud of the man and serviceman his son became. Fred also earned the Distinguished Service Cross, which is the second-highest military decoration awarded to members of the U.S. Army (and previously the Army Air Forces) for extraordinary heroism in combat.

Fred will be remembered for his loving heart, his strong work ethic, his ability to fix just about anything, and most of all, the love and devotion he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the lasting example of a good man who loved his family, served his country, and was always there when he was needed. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054, US.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jan Marie Snellenberger; son, Roy Charles Snellenberger and wife, Kelly; granddaughter, Candace Brooke Snellenberger, Amanda Helen Snellenberger; Amanda Townsend and Brittany Townsend; brother, Jim Snellenberger; sisters, Sue Yancey and Penny Snellenberger.

Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park is assisting the Snellenberger family.
