George Walter Lynn, 91, was born September 7, 1927 in Gastonia with a strong work ethic and a patient and humble disposition. While stubborn, he had an uncomplaining nature and his deeply rooted faith caused him to never worry and remain the voice of reason in all circumstances. His delight in old Westerns, particularly John Wayne, as well as chocolate cake, never wavered. George’s love of family was shown in his countless acts of selfless devotion. His numerous trips to Cherry Grove indulged his passion for fishing, while his many mountain trips allowed for enjoyment of the great outdoors.
George was a patriotic American who served eight years in the US Army. He served as a military patrolman in the Philippines, a member of the 11th Airborne, and a proud veteran of the Korean War. George received two Purple Hearts. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the 2nd Infantry Division Korean War Veterans Alliance. George attended local Gaston County Schools as well as Southern Biscayne College and Belmont Vocational Textile. He was a machinist at Homelite for 42 years.
George is preceded in death by his parents Eva (Barnes) and Brady E. Lynn and brothers Brady Odell Lynn, Ralph Lynn, Ray Lynn and sister Edna Lynn Smith.
