Gladys Ida Sherrill Young, age 100 who passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 was a Christian woman who was totally devoted to her family. She is well loved by her nieces and nephews. She was a beautiful lady who enjoyed the beach. Gladys worked for Belk’s for 50 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Baxter Carlyle Young and three sisters; Mary Zelma Sherrill Culbreth, Annie Ruth Sherrill Johnson and Nellie Elizabeth Sherrill Carroll.
She was born October 3, 1915 to the late Ezra Earl and Lela Melton Sherrill.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her nephews; Harold Dean Culbreth of Belmont, Dr. Fay Culbreth and wife Winifred Ann of Charlotte, Maxie Ray Smith of Spartanburg, South Carolina and her niece Patsy Carroll Stamps of Anderson, South Carolina. She is also survived by a step-son, Carlyle Young and wife Ellen of New Bern, North Carolina.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday June 24, 2016 in the Singing Tower Garden at Gaston Memorial Park – 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.
