James Raymond Hovis Jr.

Born February 13, 1957, in Gastonia, he was the son of the late James R. Hovis, Sr. and Peggy McGee Hovis. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother, Timothy Scott Hovis.

He was a 1975 graduate of North Gaston H.S. and a 1982 graduate of Gardner-Webb University. James worked many years for Duke Power in Charlotte and in 1998 opened his accounting practice, James R. Hovis, Jr. CPA, PLLC in Dallas, NC. James contributed to his community and church serving on Lutheran Chapel Church council, the board of Gaston County Museum and Cancer Services of Gaston County.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Margaret Robinson Hovis of the home; son, Joseph D. Hovis (Mackenzie) of Stanley; daughter, Olivia M. Hovis of the home; brother-in-law, Ivan Hovis Gobern of Raleigh; Uncles Fred McGee, Michael McGee (Vonn) and Pascal Hovis.

The funeral service will be held in the Sanctuary at Lutheran Chapel Church, 702 N. New Hope Rd., Gastonia, on Saturday, October 11th, 2025 at 11:00 am. A reception will be held afterwards in the Family Life Center.
