James Clayton Smiley

A native of Bryson City, he was the son of the late Johnny and Maggie Smiley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Weatherford Smiley; one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Smiley was a United States Army veteran.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Smiley of Charlotte; daughters, Denise Pelletier and husband Dave of Stanley, Darlene Grindstaff and husband Doug of Dallas, Debra Hawkins and husband Jim of Bessemer City; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with Rev. Tim Helms officiating.

Interment will be at Westview Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
