Joe Marvin Styers

Joe M. Styers, age 88, of Gastonia passed away Monday November 13, 2017. He was born October 12, 1929 to the late W. M. and Delia Styers. Joe was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was a lifelong member of Loray Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Scout Committee Chairman for over 30 years. Joe retired as a machinist from Styco Machine Corp. and Precision Machine Products.

Preceding Joe in death are his wife of 63 years, “Chubby” Styers, his parents, his sisters Violet and Helen and brothers Jack and George.

Left to cherish Joe’s Memory are his son Joe T. Styers (Bubbles), daughters Lori Williams (Tim) and Lee Styers. Missing their grandfather are Shawn Elizabeth Styers (Abraham Vera), Timothy Williams (Mary Gwen) and Jonathan Williams (Caroline). Joe also leaves behind Great Grandson Caden Joseph Styers and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. You may also visit the family at the home of Joe T. Styers.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday November 16, 2017 in the Garden of Prayer at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The Reverend Joel Collette will offer words of encouragement and hope to those who gather to remember Joe.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Joe’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Ave., Charlotte, NC 28226 or the Boy Scouts of America, Piedmont Council, 1222 E. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054.
