John, age 92, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Peak Resources in Gastonia, North Carolina. Described by his family, John loved and was loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent many years supporting the Boy Scouts after earning the Rank of Eagle Scout as a young man. John attended college at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he focused in Naval Studies prior to World War II. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a communications officer and he returned to active duty with the Department of the Navy during the Korean War.
John completed his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York where he studied Management in Engineering. John spent his career working in management and engineering in the manufacturing industry. He later retired in Spartanburg, South Carolina and proceeded to go right back to work with his previous employer as a contractor for many additional years. John was a man of faith and he served his local church over the years in many capacities as Deacon, Treasurer, Handyman, Landscaper and really doing anything asked of him. As a devout Christian father, he set an example for his family of how to live your faith through respect, love and forgiveness.
John will always be known as a man who served his family, community and his country and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Those left to cherish John's memory and carry on his legacy are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Dianne Lindholm Fuller; one daughter and son in law: Chris and Michael Hurley of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; one son and daughter in law: Dan and Annette Fuller of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren: James Michael Erickson and wife Khristina of Cramerton, North Carolina, Amanda Fuller, Brandon Fuller of Pennsylvania, Jerry Balukas and wife Shelly of Harrisburg, North Carolina; five great grandchildren: Kynzleigh Erickson, Kollins Erickson, Kaidge Waldrup, Emma Balukas and Johnny Balukas; one sister in law: Fanchion Fuller, Falconer of New York (widow of Robert J. Fuller). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
John was the son of the late John Sherman Fuller, Sr. and Julienne Adrian Spinnewyn. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother in law: Lois and Roger Willis; brother: Robert J. Fuller; great granddaughter: Khalia Erickson.
A life Well Celebrated Ceremony will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina with Pastor Greg Neely delivering words of comfort and hope to John's family and friends.
The family will receive guests from 12:00 PM ~ 1:00 PM prior to the service.
Graveside and committal service with military honors accorded by the United States Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 7, 2018 in Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Road, Salisbury, North Carolina 28144 with Chaplain Jason Riggs officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in John's memory to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 618 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, Kings Mountain, North Carolina 28086.
John’s daughter will entertain guest at her house during daytime hours at: Chris Hurley 1519 Lewis Farm Road, Kings Mountain, North Carolina 28086.
