Huntersville – Juanita Miles Broome, 86, of Huntersville, NC passed away peacefully on April 6, 2012 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. Born in Duncan, SC, she was the daughter of David Porter and Onie McKinney Miles and grew up in Gastonia, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” L. Broome and sister, Cornelia Miles Tamley.
Mrs. Broome was an extraordinary mother, sister, friend and mentor who shared her love of the water by teaching many young children to swim at Suttle’s Swim Club in Charlotte in the early 1960’s. She continued her love of the water when she and her husband Bill moved to Lake Norman in 1972. While there, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Juanita was the life of any party – known affectionately to some as “Sparkplug” – she could light up any room with her charm and wit. She was a friend of Bill W’s since 1978 and developed many special, long-lasting friendships throughout this fellowship. Mrs. Broome retired from the U. S. Postal Service and was a member of Denver Baptist Church and more recently Lake Norman Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, William Barry Broome and wife, Junko of St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands; Eric Reginald Broome of Mt. Holly, NC; Karen Patricia Broome of Charlotte; sister Margaret Black of Gastonia; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Broome and partner, Eva Harris, Jason Eric Broome and wife Hanh, Erika Dawn Broome Hallman and husband, Clay; and great-grandchildren, Savannah Darbi Williamson, Blakely Shea Hallman, William Davis Hallman, and Thomas William Broome; and her beloved cat, K. C.
