Kathryn Mae (Wilson) Marlowe

Kathryn Mae (Wilson) Marlowe, 95, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Friday October 27, 2023. Kathryn was a resident at Belaire in Gastonia. She was born in York County, South Carolina to the late Iva (Johnson) Wilson and Eugene Wilson. Kathryn was a Christian woman. Her faith influenced all aspects of her life. When she was younger, she taught Sunday School and the church youth. She started the first bus ministry at Victory Baptist using an old VW van. She also led girls in the church’s G. A. program. She was salutatorian of her graduating class. She went on to business school. She was an artist. Her family still has some of her paintings. She was an excellent seamstress, even making her daughter Kathy’s wedding dress. Kathryn was also a strong family person. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great-grandmother. Outside the home, she worked as a secretary. Kathryn lived a long and full life and many will miss her.

In addition to her parents her first husband, Bobby J. Threlkeld and her second husband, Isaac B. Marlowe, precede her in death. He daughter, Lisa Tucker, has also gone on before her.

Her survivors include her children, Melanie Crooks and her husband Joseph, Kathy Upton and her husband Butch, Bobby “Chip” Threlkeld and his fiancée Angela Hall and Jonathan Threlkeld. Her legacy includes five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Missing their grandmother are Matthew Crooks, Courtney Anderson, Jacob Whiteside, Katie Humphries and her wife Sam Humphries and Brittany Price and her husband Will. Her great-grandchildren are Austin Anderson and Jolene Price. Her sister, Frankie Goodson is also a survivor.

A service celebrating the home going of Kathryn will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday November 3, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Reverend Roger Overton, of Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly will officiate.

Kathryn will be laid to rest, next to her dear husband, Isaac B. Marlowe, immediately following the celebration of life service. The burial is at Westview Gardens, 1123 Edgewood Road, Bessemer City. Her pallbearers are Matthew Crooks, Jacob Whiteside, Jon Threlkeld and Butch Upton.
