1924 in Lownesville, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Fulton Campbell and
Cleo Wansley Campbell; his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Owens Campbell; his
sons, SSGT Warren Dane Campbell and Leonard Steven Campbell; brothers,
James P. Campbell and Woodfin Campbell; sisters, Rose C. Wilson, Willie
Mae C. Walker, and Lanie C. Whitworth; and his lifelong friends,
Clarence and Ruth McCarn, and Bud and Ella Mae Stowe.
He is survived by his son, Ret. AF MSGT Calvert K. Campbell Sr. and his
wife, Lett, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and his daughters, Terry Elizabeth
Campbell, and Dr. Deborah Hudson and her husband, Gary, of Gastonia.
Grandchildren include Rachael Leigh Nuchols, Jennifer Becton Certain,
Monica Becton Dellinger, Amy Campbell Czubaj, Calvert Campbell Jr.,
Claudia Campbell, Tel Arroyo, Nancy Lopez, Angelita Colley, Elizabeth
Nesbitt, Abel Bituin, Andrew Bituin, and Ernesto Bituin. He is also
survived by 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Additionally, he is survived by lifelong friends Sylvia and Larry Walt,
Margaret and Sheridan Hill, and Vann and Brenda Hartsell. Special
appreciation is expressed for the kindness and care by Peak Resources
and Hospice of Gaston County.
Mr. Campbell attended Campbell School and graduated from Ashley High
School and the NC Vocational Textile College. He worked with the
Civilian Conservation Corps building water shed equipment near Mount
Hood, Washington. He was a World War II veteran serving at Pearl
Harbor as a military policeman. His career experience in textiles
began with sweeping floors and included plant management with over 100
employees. He retired from Springs Mills in 1987.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27, at 2 p.m.
followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in
Gastonia. Honorary pall bearers will be VFW veterans. Burial will be
private.
