Lodema “Dean” Cashwell of Gastonia, NC, passed away on May 4, 2023 at the age of 87. She was born on April 29,1936, graduated from Gastonia High School and later had a successful career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Dean retired from the Charlotte facility as a Program Director after 25 years of service.
Dean is survived by her loving husband, Paul of Gastonia; daughter, Karen McNeely and her husband Hank of Jacksonville, FL; son, Thomas Snipes of Gastonia; and grandsons, Alex McNeely of Raleigh and Zach McNeely of Rock Hill, SC.
She was the oldest of four siblings and is survived by her sister, Arbie Harper and her husband Dennis and her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Leona Carringer and Hazel Burchfield; brothers, Matt Carringer Jr. and Gene Carringer.
A memorial service with visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. The Venerable Erich A. Zwingert, SSC, will officiate and a reception will follow.
