A Big Hearted Man Knows That When You Give Your Heart, It’s Not To Be Tampered Or Played With, And They Will Do Their Best To Handle It With Care… Maurice was a very tender hearted man who could bring anyone to tears when his beautiful blue eyes watered up.
Maurice McKissick, age 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday ~ September 27, 2018. Maurice loved taking care of his wife, hunting, fishing, his beloved dog Ginger, his family, and most importantly he loved the Lord. Maurice was a member of the Family Worship Center Media Church.
He was a hardworking man who was a carpenter for most of his adult life and took great pride in his work. When he got to the point that he could no longer do all the work he used to be able to do, you can bet that he stood over whoever was doing it so that he could tell them what they were doing wrong and how to fix it.
One Christmas, Maurice told Geno he was going to buy him a gun for Christmas and he ended falling on hard times and told Geno he wouldn't be able to buy it, Geno told him that was ok, but pawpaw was heartbroken to have to tell him that he couldn't buy him a gun, but he ended up working overtime just to make sure that that gun was under the tree for Geno on Christmas morning.
He was a hero to his entire family, but especially his children and grandchildren who thought he was the strongest and toughest man in the world.
When Maurice met Jeanette, they went on a few dates and she ended up sick in the hospital. When it was time for her to leave the hospital, he told her to put some nice clothes on and proceeded to tell, (not ask), her they were going to get married...and they did.
He could talk your ear off in just a short period of time, but we wouldn't have wanted it any other way. His stories were the best, he would tell how him and Jeanette met (if she wasn't talking over him to tell him the actual story0 and stories of when his kids were young. He would tell anyone and everyone that how he walked in to a room, where Jeanette was, and first laid eyes on her, and how it was love at first site, how they sat and drank coffee for hours.
Maurice served honorably in the United States Army and received the Sharp Shooters Badge as a rifleman.
Those left behind to cherish Maurice's memories and carry on his legacy are his wife of 45 years who he married on April 23,1973; Jeanette McKissack; two children: Gigi Smart and Geno Crumpton; eight grandchildren: Shawn Crumpton, Rhonda Crumpton (Will Fikes), Jacqi Robinson (Erick Sr.), Christopher Mitchell (Amanda Wade), Cameron Mitchell (Abby Allen), Jacob Ivey (Kendall Corkren), J.R. Smart and Misty Burnett (Brannon); seven great grandchildren: Madison Driskell, Maecie Driskell, Erick Robinson Jr., Elena Mitchell, Keely Fikes, Harper Mitchell and Aleena Austin.
Maurice McKissick was born to the late Bernie Jerome McKissack and Norma Mae McKissack on June 28, 1943.
A Life Well Celebrated Memorial Ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday ~ October 13, 2018 at the Oasis of Praise.
