Margaret B Walker

Margaret Elizabeth (Braswell) Walker, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 10th, 2021. Margaret loved her family. She always wanted to look her best and her family says she would not go out without her make-up being done and wearing the appropriate jewelry. Even as a youngster Margaret tried to look her best. She would walk to her elementary school bus stop in her regular shoes, but she would change into her “good” shoes before riding the bus to school. Margaret was born in Gastonia, but she spent many of her formative years in the North Carolina Mountains. She always had a close connection with Piney, North Carolina. Margaret will be missed by both her family and friends.

Margaret is daughter of the late Lessie (Wynnes) and Johnny Braswell. Margaret’s husband, James “Jack” B. Walker, Sr. passed in 1977. Her daughter, Kay (Walker) Atchley pre-deceased her as well. She was the oldest of 10 siblings. Preceding her in death are her sisters, Naomi and her husband Pete and Brenda and brothers, Marvin and his wife Ruby, Ray, Gerald, Byron and Johnny Lee. A great-grandson, Jackson, also precedes her in death.

Left to cherish their memories of Margaret and the carry on her legacy are her son James “Jackie” B. Walker, Jr. and his wife Gina and three grandchildren – Chad Atchley, Amber Lange and her husband Paul and Eric Walker, son-in-law C. L. Atchley. Margaret also leaves behind her six great-grandchildren, Carly, Lane, Nikolas, Kaylee, Alexa and Rhett. Grieving the loss of their sister are brother, Ted Braswell and his wife June and sister Barbara Dean Raxter, brother-in-law Frank Farr, sisters-in-law Virginia Braswell and Jan Braswell as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Margaret is being missed by her very close friends Mildred Benton and Tug Atchley.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday January 15th, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 12:30 PM. Margaret will be buried in the Willow Garden at Gaston Memorial Park immediately following the celebration of life service. Pastor Sam Barnett will officiate.
