Martha Byers Hughes, age 90, of Country Time Assisted Living, Kings Mountain and formerly of Cramerton, passed away at Country Time Assisted Living on Sunday, May 01, 2011. She was born in Catawba County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late William and Rose Southard Byers. She was the widow of Claude Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a former employee of Burlington Industries, Cramerton from 1936 to 1972 and retired from Pharr Yarns after 10 years service. She was a faithful and devoted member of Riverside Baptist Church, Cramerton where she taught Sunday School for the Primary Group for 28 years and was a member of the Choir.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her son, Van Hughes and wife Kathy of Stanley; her daughter, Janice Schulthies and husband Jim of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; daughter-in-law, Diane Hughes of Kings Mountain; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A. M. to 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at Riverside Baptist Church, 171 South Main Street, Cramerton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Lefler and Rev. Clarence Morris officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude A. Hughes; son, Dan Hughes; granddaughter, Heather Leigh Hughes; four brothers, Henry, Worth, Woodrow and Daniel Byers; sister, Mary Frances Bridges.
