I have been very saddened to learn about the passing of Michael and my sincere condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. Michael and I were good friends in junior and high school. In 8th grade, Michael and a small group of us had all of our classes together. I remember that particular school year being one of the funnest because we were constantly making jokes and goofing off before and after class. Shortly later, Michael was my first friend to get a driver's license and car, and he was always very kind in offering me and others rides to and from places. I remember vividly driving around Gastonia with Micheal in his Honda Accord, listening to The Beatles, and trying to figure the world out. I have very fond memories growing up with Michael and will miss him deeply.

With kind regards,

Deborah Johnston

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I really enjoyed Michael's company and he always made me feel welcome when I came to visit the family in Gastonia. One time while I was visiting I remember his concern for a stray dog that he tried to catch. I appreciated then how much he cared for the welfare of animals.
I will treasure the memories of the fun times we spent together.
My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
All my love,

Janet and David Johnston

We remember clearly Michael's amazing artistic talent. When he visited us in Ireland he brought out his watercolours and painted an incredible scene of Strangford Lough. When we came to stay at the family home in Gastonia he would often bring out his guitar and play a few tunes or show us his latest artwork.
He was such a sensitive soul who we dearly loved. His genuine personality always shone through wherever he was.
Everyone will miss him.
With love and our deepest sympathy for the family,
Janet and David
