Mildred was born on December 11, 1928. She was the only child to the late Vance Murle Pressley and Delia Wynes. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Benton as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose strength, compassion, and faith left a legacy that will endure for generations. After retiring from Belk, she continued working for 20 years at Toys-R-Us, bringing warmth and joy to those around her until she retired at the age of 80.
She was a woman of steadfast resilience—hardworking and devoted, she led by example and taught her children the values of integrity, perseverance, and love. Her greatest lesson, though, was spiritual: a strong Christian follower, she guided her family to place their trust in God, nurturing their faith with wisdom and grace.
Children felt especially drawn to her, and she to them—her tender heart and joyful spirit made her a gentle haven in a busy world. She helped anyone and everyone in need, never asking for anything in return.
Her passions were woven into her daily life—whether she was crocheting a handmade gift, sewing something special with care, or enjoying her favorite soap operas, she embraced life’s quiet pleasures with contentment and joy.
Mildred is survived by her son, Charles Robert Dixon of Gastonia, NC; her daughter, Pamela Fulton of Gastonia, NC; grandson, Marty and his wife, Dakota of NC; and 4 great grandchildren.
