

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Abe and Annie Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a US Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Zonia Bell Anderson Phillips; children, Lure Anderson and husband Willard, Evelyn Ballard, James Phillips and wife Regina, Sara Garver and husband Randy, Larry Phillips, David Phillips and wife Tamera, Roger Phillips and wife Sherry; daughter-in-law, Patricia Phillips; sister, Edith Waldroup; half-brother, Guy Phillips; half-sisters, Maybelle Bridges, Marie Bradley; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Verlin and William Phillips; daughter, Betty Phillips; brother, Dewey Phillips; half-brother, Claude Phillips; and half-sister, Bonnie Phillips.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with Pastor Lonnie Harris officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.
