

Rose Hammond Chesser, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong educator, passed away on November 14, 2025, at Atrium Health Lake Norman Hospital. She was a woman whose life was defined by love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John E. Chesser Sr., son, Tommy Chesser; brothers, Maxy Hammond, Lloyd Hammond, Bobby Hammond; and sister, Dian Cooke.
Family was the heart of her world. She delighted in spending countless hours with her grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and lessons that will live on in their hearts forever. Her home was always filled with warmth, joy, and the sound of family gathered.
A lifelong educator, Rose dedicated her career to shaping young minds and nurturing future generations. She served Gaston County Schools with distinction, ultimately retiring as a principal. Her leadership was marked by compassion, integrity, and a steadfast belief in the power of education to change lives. She touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and families, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and care.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Rose will be remembered for her radiant spirit. Her kindness, humor, and generosity created bonds that will endure long after her passing.
She is survived by her children, John E. Chesser Jr. and wife Jennifer of Davidson, William D. Chesser and wife Susan of Durham, and Laura E. Randall of Cornelius; grandchildren, Heather Ward and husband Ryan of Concord, Ian Chesser of Flemington, NJ, Sarah Chesser of Durham NC , Stephen Chesser of Portland, OR, Ben Chesser of Chapel Hill, NC and Jack Randall of Wilmington, NC; great grands, Zach Ward and Ty Ward of Concord; brothers, Jack Hammond and wife Nancye of Lancaster and Paul Hammond and wife Doris of Lancaster. SC; and many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Dr, Gastonia, NC, 28054 where friends and family will gather to share stories, honor her legacy, and remember the remarkable woman she was.
