Ruby Joyce Gilreath Black

A woman of God who read her Bible daily… Ruby Joyce Gilreath Black, age 100 and 9 months old, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Belaire Health Care in Gastonia. Ruby was born in Virginia on January 5, 1917. She was the eighth child of ten. Ruby came from a family that was self-sufficient. She loved to cook, make homemade soup and bake all sorts of items, especially cakes. She always had a vegetable garden and canned her own foods. Ruby was a homemaker, Sunday School Teacher and loved to sing in the choir at Rankin Lake Baptist Church.

Left behind to carry on her memories are her special niece: Gail Ledford of Gastonia, North Carolina.

Ruby was the daughter of the late Rufus Gilreath and Mae Looper Gilreath. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Bryce Nelson Black who passed away in 2008. Her four sisters: Bonnie Jenkins, Emma Bingham, Ethel Benfield and Blanch Sanders; her five brothers: Clyde, Walter, Sam, Bill and R.J. Gilreath.

A Life Well Celebrated service will be held at 1:00 PM ~ Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM ~ 1:00 PM prior to the service.

Graveside and Committal will follow in the Cherry Garden at Gaston Memorial Park where Ruby will be laid beside of her late husband.
