Sarah Carter

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Sarah Whittington Carter, 91, of Columbia, S.C., and formerly

of Gastonia, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the Agape at Kathwood

Assisted Living, Columbia.

She was born in Latta, S.C., and was the daughter of the late William Lafayette

and Hattie Elizabeth Meggs Whittington.

Mrs. Carter attended the Gaston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked

at Gaston Memorial Hospital as a Nurse and then retired as Director of Central

Supplies at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden and was a member of First Baptist

Church, Lowell.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Libby Greene and husband Jesse of

Blythewood, S.C., George Ann Carter of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Marie Allen

of Latta, S.C.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia

with the Rev. John Carter officiating.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Theadore

Carter.
