Seymour “Sy” Shved, 95, formerly of Coconut Creek FL passed away at the Robin Johnson House on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Born January 5, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the middle son of Morris and Ida Shved. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Louis and Norman Shved.
Sy served in the U. S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, NY . He was a jack of many trades including home construction, building inspection, jewelry manufacturing and textile sales but his favorite “job” was being retired. He enjoyed 30+ years of very active retirement in Florida where he was an avid golfer, created stained glass art and was President of, and spent countless hours in, the Wood Shop. He and Lopi traveled, attended weekly theater performances and enjoyed many dinners with their friends.
Sy leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Lopi Mavricos Shved, son Lonny Shved (Carol), and daughter Marisa Shved Marder (Tony), granddaughter Elyse Marder and grandson David Marder.
Entombment will be at 11 am on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Mausoleum of Peace, Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC. Dr. Charles Brown will officiate. The United States Army and The Gaston County Honor Guard will accord full military honors to Sy.
Fond memories of Sy and condolences for the family may be left at www.carothersfunealhomegastonia.com.
Memorials may be made in Sy’s memory to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 205 Regency Executive Park Dr, Suite 102, Charlotte, NC 28217 or www.jdrf.org. Sy did much fundraising for JDRF and his fondest wish was that a cure would be found for diabetes “in his lifetime.”
The staff of Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park is honored to serve the Shved family.
