Shelby Jean (Benoy) Brown, 81, of Norwood passed away peacefully at her son’s home on Saturday June 13, 2020. Shelby was a restaurant owner and was known for Southern Comfort food. She enjoyed quilting, reading and making jewelry. She was also a NASCAR fan, with a special focus on the driver – Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano. She was also a football fan and she supported the Carolina Panthers. Most of all she was a woman focused on her family. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is the daughter of the late Bertie (Rogers) and Henry Paul Benoy. Her husband of 40 years, Jack Brown, preceded her in death in 1996. Shelby was also preceded in death by her daughter Jackie (Brown) Davis and granddaughter Heather Brown.

Left to cherish their memories of her are her daughter, Jennifer (Brown) Hudson and son, Gary Brown and wife Carol. Missing their grandmother are 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She leaves behind her sisters – Anita Johnson of Tennessee, Karen Price of South Carolina and brother - Roger Benoy of South Carolina.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and to Dr. Garry H. Schwartz of the Levine Cancer Institute and his staff.

A celebration of Shelby’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday June 16, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service beginning at 1:00 pm. I have so many memories of my Aunt Shelby that I do not know where to start. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. She and my mother were not only sisters in law, but also the best of friends for years. She had a gentile heart, and loved her family dearly.
RIP Aunt Shelby. I loved you. I know you loved me too
