Willie Lee Woods, age 83, husband of Betty Ann Jackson Woods, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born on April 11, 1937, the only child of the late Elizabeth Berry Connor. Willie had a career at the City of Gastonia, retiring after 41 years of service, and retired owner of Woods Janitorial Service with over 30 years of service.
A man of strong faith, Willie was a dedicated, faithful, and lifelong member of the Liberty Hill AME Zion Church where he served as the Preacher’s Steward, member of the Men’s Choir, Usher Ministry and Finance Committee; and Golden Rule Lodge #82. He was a sharp dresser, loved cars and his family.
In addition to his mother, Willie was proceeded in death by his father, Willie June and three brothers, Erwin June, Charles June, and Robert June.
In addition to his wife, Wille is survived by seven children, Vickie Setzer, Beverly Tribble (Raymond), Myra Woods, Phyllis Whistine (James), Tanya Williams, Keith Woods of Gastonia, NC, and Lamar Woods of Mount Holly, NC; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Woods (Major), Sarah Mackins (Calvin) of Gastonia, NC; three brothers, Sammuel June (Patricia), William June (Kelly) and L.C. June (Juanita) of Gastonia, NC; five sisters-in-law, Deborah June, Arlene June, Gardenia Jackson, Stella Jackson, Bessie Montgomery of Gastonia, NC, and Paulet Jackson of Charlotte, NC. Special cousin, Mary Boyd of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Special niece, Shelia Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia. Special friends, Arthur, and Brenda Byrd; countless other relatives, church family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. A private committal service will be held at Gaston Memorial park conducted by Pastor Ryan O. Godfrey and Reverend Thelma Gordon assisting following the visitation.
