

Wilma Lucille (Spivey) Monk, 86, of Gastonia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday November 13, 2021. Wilma was born November 3, 1935 in Gastonia to her parents, Lena (Smith) Spivey and W. A. Spivey. Wilma was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Victory Baptist Church. She was very active and she regularly served with the other women of the church. She was a member of the various women’s circle groups in the church. She worked as a spinner in the textile industry. After she retired she stayed home to “babysit and spoil” their dog, Rocky. She like to walk and she enjoyed time at the beach. Many will dearly miss her.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Allen Monk, who died only three weeks ago. Her family says, “True love can’t be apart.” She is the daughter of the late Lena and W.A. Spivey.
Wilma leaves behind her children, Ronald Monk and his wife Darlene, Buddy Monk and his wife Linda, Susan Nalley and Paul Monk and his wife Kammie. Wilma’s legacy includes seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Wilma also leaves behind her sister Edith Parker and her brother William Spivey.
A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday November 18, 2021 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 11:30 AM, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Luke Garden of Gaston Memorial Park. Reverend Janet DeWater and Pastor Keith Martin will officiate. Ron Monk, David Monk, Jamie Monk, Clint Monk and members the Gaston County Emergency Medical Services Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
