Betty Ross Neyens

Betty Jo Ross Neyens (Betty Jo) of Austin, Texas was born in Leander Texas on 9-11-1930 to Jim & Bernice Law Ross.  She was a graduate of Liberty Hill High School’s old red brick building.  She worked & worshiped with Brentwood Church of Christ’s satellite congregation at the Village Christian Apartments where she & Sis lived since 2002. 

She got involved with the church there while visiting her aunts and uncle that lived at the complex making many additional friends.  She would offer rides to residence who had no individual transportation get to doctor’s appointments or do errands and started joining in on their day excursions to museums, centers and festivals.

She retired from the Texas State Highway Department in 1993 after a 35-year career and started volunteering full time at Village Christian.  She became a Volunteer Assistance Coordinator for the Event’s Director there at the apartments.  She loved her work and friends.  She worked up until the time COVID-19 caused them to quarantine and she could no long see to drive.

She is survived by:

Son, James A. Neyens & wife Marty

Daughters, Shirley Neyens & Patty Stephens & husband Johnny

Granddaughters: Felicia Wilson & husband Michael, Erica Stephens, Jamey Kessler & husband Bill, Tara Weeks & husband Scott and Natalie Neyens

Great-grandchildren: Olivia Wilson, Liam Wilson, Lillian Weeks,Heidi Kessler, Charlotte Weeks and William Kessler III.

Brothers:  James Duff Ross & wife Yvonne and Taylor Metcalfe

Sister:  Nellie “Winky” Traynor

Many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by:

Her parents: James E Ross and Bernice Willetta Law Ross

Sisters: Edna Faye, Carolyn Gauthier and Sue Metcalfe

Brother: Tom Traynor
