Carl was known by so many and was loved by all who came in contact with him. He was a man who was an excellent father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, friend and all-around hard worker. He loved his family and God and was a great example and role model of a Christian man who was honest and sincere.
One of Carl’s favorite enjoyments in life was to play golf. He was a frequent golf player and acquired many golf “buddies” during his time. He was a loyal and active member of the Par Tamers Golf Club, located in Decatur, IL.
Carl worked as a Division of Road Foreman of Engines for Norfolk and Southern Railroad and he retired in 1995 after 26 remarkable years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Carl was a faithful and devoted member of Sweet Home Baptist Church where he sang with the basses and baritones in the Men of Worship Choir.
While in Illinois, Carl was a member of John C. Ellis Lodge No. 17, Free & Accepted Mason, PHA, Decatur, IL. He served as the Junior Warden and then Senior Warden before serving as the Worship Master in 2013 - 2014.
Being very proud of being a York Rite Mason, Carl also served as a Past High Priest, Past Trice Illustrious Master, and Past Eminent Commander. Having the same pride in being a Scottish Rite Mason, regularly reminisced of the day he joined Menelik Consistory #49 on October 10, 2012. Due to his work ethic and Masonic accomplishments he was invited to become a Grand Inspector General, (33rd Degree Mason,) on March 30, 2016. He was truly a missed member of the Illinois Prince Hall Masonic Family.
Upon retiring to Georgetown, Texas Past Master Carl Smith transferred his membership to:
