Cheryl Lynn Hadlock

Cheryl Lynn Hadlock passed away peacefully September 26, 2026 surrounded by her family after a long, brave battle with cancer. Cheryl was born February 5, 1952, in Phoenix, Arizona to Robert and Donna (Davis) Robertson. She attended Washington Elementary School, Cortez High School, and received her BA in Education from Arizona State University.

High school sweethearts, Cheryl married Monte Hadlock in June 1974. Monte was serving in the U.S. Airforce, so their married life included several moves, living in Great Falls Montana, Phoenix Arizona, Langley Virgina, Alamogordo New Mexico, and Austin Texas. Together Cheryl and Monte had two great children, Kareen and Brandon. Every place they lived Cheryl, Monte and their children, and later their grandsons, were engaged in sports programs including football, softball, cheerleading, baseball, and hockey, creating busy weekends supporting, and being proud of her children and grandchildren, while making long-term friends.

Once settled in Austin, Cheryl began her over 33-year career with United Heritage Credit Union, formerly Bergstrom Federal Credit Union. Advancing positions and departments, Cheryl was certified as an expert in federal regulations for financial institutions and was known for her expertise in the regulations she managed for the Credit Union. She was also known for her diligence in all matters under her care, her in-depth knowledge of the data systems used within the credit union and her willingness to help others with complicated financial investigations. Due to her knowledge level and abilities, she was often asked to be involved in special projects. Cheryl was also known to volunteer for extra activities the credit union sponsered and volunteered to help her coworkers when it was time to buy school supplies, baby supplies, books drives or any other charity functions when the credit union was asking for donations. Cheryl retired from the

credit union in 2019 after an exceptional career and after making lifelong friends of coworkers.

After years of living in South Austin/Oak Hill area, Cheryl and Monte moved to Liberty Hill and settled down for retirement. Covid interfered with retirement travel plans but allowed Cheryl to spend time with her beloved grandsons Cole and Jaxon. She loved and is proud of her growing family which now includes two great-granddaughters, Dakota and Ember.

Cheryl showed her love for her family through little things, often quietly and behind the scenes. She loved to spoil those she cared about and was generous with her family. The accomplishments of her children and grandchildren were major points of pride for her. Her home and office were filled with photographs of family at all ages, in sports uniforms and at important events. Cheryl welcomed new family members with gusto, making them feel immediately comfortable. Holidays were a favorite time and Cheryl ensured that the holidays were celebrated with great company, great food and many laughs.

Cheryl was known for her love of Southwestern décor, for rocking in any chair she sat in despite the chair not being a rocking chair, for a good sarcastic retort at the exact right moment, and for eating peanut butter on just about everything. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and loved history. Cheryl was a loyal friend, a great Mom, Granny, Great Granny, and loving wife. She assisted family and friends in many ways with dignity and grace. Cheryl could be stubborn and was passionate about topics she believed in. She was one of the good ones when the world needs more good ones. Cheryl will be missed.

Cheryl is predeceased by her father Robert, mother Donna, and brother Robert. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Monte, her daughter Kareen (Mike) McCarter, son Brandon

Hadlock, grandsons, Cole (Hailey) McCarter and Jaxon Hadlock, and great-granddaughters Dakota and Ember McCarter, sister-in-law Melissa Robertson, and Aunt Carol Culver, several cousins, nephews, and a host of friends.
