

Lt. Col. (U.S. Army Retired) James William “Daddy Jim” Whitson, of Georgetown, Texas passed away November 30, 2013. Daddy Jim was born January 17, 1914 in Milford, Texas on the family farm to Harlan Joseph and Maude Easter Whitson
His wife of 57 years, Leota Wynn “Sweetie” preceded him to Heaven in 1998 as well as his three brothers Frank Edward, Joseph Earl and Benjamine Edward, and two sisters Ruth Amy and Mary Edith.
Those left to remember his gentle soul are his son, Robert Harlan Whitson and wife, Sue; daughter, Sandra Lee Whitson; granddaughter, Kerry Lynn Turner and husband, Ian; grandson, Stephen Reed Whitson and wife, Patricia; two great-grandchildren, Austin James and Dylan Reed Whitson; daughter-in-law, Virginia Lynn Whitson; and many more extended family, loved ones and friends.
In 1940 Daddy Jim graduated from Texas A & M. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the in the Philippines with the 79th Civil Engineer Battalion from 1941 – 1977. He served in the United States Army and Reserves and retired a Lieutenant Colonel.
In 1941 he married Leota Wynn “Sweetie” Baker in Pecos, Texas.
He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 31 years – retiring in 1976. During retirement he faithfully went to church, loved going to garages sales and setting up in flea markets. He also carved wooden dolls.
A memorial service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on the 7th of December 2013 at The Wesleyan at Estrella in Georgetown, Texas with Chaplain Darrell Hudson officiating.
The family requests that instead of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to any Hospice Group.
