Our mother was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School and was the head of Vacation Bible School for many years. Darlene excelled in everything she did. She worked in civil service as a secretary for over 30 years and was praised for her perfect work. When she was 50 years old, Darlene went to work for the Liberty Hill School District as an aide for special education. She retired after serving for 35 years.
Our mother wanted her children to do two things: learn to swim (because she was afraid of the water) and to play an instrument, the piano. We did!
Darlene was an avid painter and at one time raised birds. She loved NASCAR and was a Jimmy Johnson fan. There were three things we were never late for or missed, and that was work, church, and school.
Darlene told numerous accounts of answered prayer and Jesus speaking to her heart, giving her wisdom on something she had prayed about. Those stories gave many the faith to believe.
The last 4-1/2 years of Darlene’s life were spent at The Wesleyan Skilled Nursing facility. We had some good visits and had fun at BINGO. Our family gives thanks for the excellent care that was given to her while there.
Mother was always an advocate for education, so she always gave to help us and others to succeed. Because of this, please make any donations to the student of your choice.
A time of visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with graveside services at Lytton Springs Cemetery in Dale, Texas.
Honoring Darlene as pallbearers will be Matthew Graves, Billy Cole, Clayton Behrens, Caden Neely, Clint Hamilton and Cody Johns, with Cooper Neely and Hayden Graves serving as honorary pallbearers.
