

Darrell Richard Ekdahl was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 5, 1944. At one month old, he went home with his adoptive parents, Emil and Loraine Ekdahl, to Georgetown, Texas, where he made his home for more than 80 years. In April 2025, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Darrell attended Trinity College in Chicago, Illinois, for one year before graduating from the Austin School of Electronics. He served for six years in the Air Force Reserves and began his career with IBM in 1970, where he worked for more than 25 years.
On June 16, 1973, Darrell married Mary Ann (née Anderson), beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love, faith, and family. Together, they made their home in Georgetown, where they raised their four children and remained active in their community.
A devoted member of the Evangelical Free Church in Georgetown, Darrell served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer, finding joy in his faith, service, and fellowship. His Christian faith was not simply something he professed; it was reflected in the way he lived his life. Darrell was known for his consistency, faithfulness, and quiet dependability. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and those who relied on him knew they could count on his steady presence, his word, and his commitment. He also loved gardening and took great pride and pleasure in tending his plants.
Above all, Darrell was deeply committed to his family. He cherished his role as husband, father, and grandfather and found great joy in the lives of those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his four children and their families: son Dale and wife Michaela, and grandchildren Tevin and Molly; daughter Mary Beth and husband Greg, and grandchildren Chloe and Joseph; son Andrew and wife Emily; and son James and wife Cassie, and twin granddaughters Evangeline and Amelia.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Loraine Ekdahl, and his sister, Linda. His life was rooted in faith, family, service, and steadfast love for the people and community around him. He leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, devotion, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628, on August 14, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Heritage Baptist Church, 1601 FM971, Georgetown, Texas 78626, on August 15, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Evangelical Free Church Cemetery, 4181 CR-110, Georgetown, Texas 78626.
