David Lorenzo Sample, age 71, was received back into the arms of Jesus after a sudden illness on July 17, 2017. He was born, April 8, 1946, in Taylor, Texas, to Rosie Lee Gadison Sample and William A. Sample. He was an only child and was reared in Georgetown, Texas. He attended Carver High School in Georgetown where he was active on the football team.
David received Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church in Georgetown. Until his retirement, David was a master mason and was employed at Brazos Masonry and C.W. Oates Masonry for over 30 years total specializing in mortar preparation. He was often a part of the project teams that constructed various public schools in Georgetown and surrounding communities that are still in use today. Although he could be described as no-nonsense, he had a generous heart toward his friends and would not hesitate to lend them money or open the doors of his home if they needed a place to stay. His major hobbies were watching Westerns and football (especially the Cowboys) whenever possible, and singing and listening to the Blues.
David is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Denise Jones (Gregory) of Killeen, Texas, and Mollie Patricia Sample of Georgetown, TX; his cherished granddaughters, Travonne Sheree Williams and Xyephany Etoya Sample; and aunt, Joyce Gadison (Edgar-deceased). David was preceded in death, by one year and 4 months by his devoted wife of 49 years, Mollie Lee Sample, his parents, and his beloved daughter, Trialanie Sample. In addition, he leaves behind numerous cousins and friends to mourn his loss.
