On June 14th, 2018, a mighty superhero was born, presented as a little boy named Dean Jacob. Despite his small stature, this hero had incredible super-human strength, able to endure much more than any little boy ever should. He was also wise and filled with love, so keenly aware of what made those around him most happy. We called him DJ.
In his four years, DJ grew to use his power of wisdom for good. He became an engineer and master stacker of blocks- building tall buildings in a single bound. An astronomer and scientist who could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the planets and stars- understanding the mysteries of the universe. A chef who could make you the best pizza you ever tasted and who also happened to love french toast sticks and cheeseburgers with fries.
But more than a superhero, DJ was a child of God. He was a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, neighbor, and a best friend. He loved people. He loved to show others love. Through him and the mission he was given as superhero, he helped show all who met him, who read about him, and who knew him what is most important in this life. To love others and to shine God’s light into everything we do. He loved his family, friends, dogs, dinosaurs, Blippi, fellow superheroes, leche, learning, music, and any-and-all types of Band-Aids.
On September 30th, 2022, DJ completed his mission here on earth, having proven so strong for so long. He leaves behind his loving parents, Roman and Amanda Torres and sisters Gabrielle and Isabella of Georgetown, Texas; Father and Stepmom Derek and Joanne Pruitt of Houston, Texas; Grandparents Norman and Brenda Carlsen of Georgetown, David and Deborah Pruitt of Bastrop, and Adolfo and Maria Torres Rusk; Aunt Michelle Carlsen of Georgetown, Uncles and Aunts David Pruitt Jr, Alex Torres, Tony Torres, Maria Espinoza, and Francis Torrez; cousins William, Wesley, Matthew, Susy, Francisco, Lexi, Drake, Tessa, and Sophia. and countless other family members, friends, and neighbors whose hearts were touched greatly by this mighty superhero.
DJ also used his powers to uncover the discrepancies in pediatric cancer funding and research. He highlighted the work that is yet to be done and the priorities that so desperately need to be realigned so more superheroes like DJ get the opportunity to have more time here on earth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to https://childrenscancer.org and reach out to local and state legislature to allow DJ’s good work here to continue to motivate change for years to come.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 10 am at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, Tx.
