Deanna Jean Shrum Burns, 85, died peacefully on February 14, 2024, in Round Rock Texas. She was the loving wife of Coy Dean Burns of Georgetown Texas for 68 years. She was born on November 6, 1938, in Salem Oregon. She moved to California with her mother as a child and attended Southgate High School.
Family was everything to Deanna. She and Coy raised three children in Cypress, California, being very engaged in their activities. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts with her daughter Christy. She played a very important role in the development of several other children’s lives by providing extended day care services, considering each of them as member of her family. Deanna loved being a grandma. When her granddaughters got Disneyland passes, she got one herself and took them often. She took the grandkids to McDonalds and let them play for hours. She took them camping with her friends and did crafts and played bingo. She loved attending their sporting events. In Banning, it was golf cart rides and swimming in the community pool. Being a grandma was wonderful for her, but she was even more excited to be a GiGi when great grandchildren came along. She was always searching on Amazon for the perfect gift for the next holiday even if it was months away.
Deanna was an active member of Lady Elks for years. Between Elks and bowling leagues she and Coy formed lifelong friendships. They loved to travel on cruises with large groups of friends. She loved ceramics and created many family holiday heirlooms. Deanna was a true animal lover and has always had a deep love for her pets including dogs, cats, rabbits and even a desert tortoise.
Coy and Deanna moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2016 after spending several years living in Banning California. They have formed strong bonds with neighbors and friends wherever they have lived.
Deanna is survived by her husband Coy and children Christy Burns and her partner Tom Lynch of Banning, California: Ken Burns and his wife Kathy of Leander, Texas: and Scott Burns and his wife Patty of Tuttle, Oklahoma. She is also survived by Grandchildren Alyssa (Joe) Row, Katelyn (Doug) Richter, Alexis (Chris) Gevedon, Andrew (Rachel) Hopkinson, and Casey Lynch and Great Grandchildren Case and Avery Richter, Ryan Row, and Tanner, Rhylie, Mikayla, and Ivy Gevedon. Deanna was loved by many others who also lovingly called her Grandma or GiGi. She was a truly caring person who will be missed by many.
Services will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Friday, March 1st at 11 am. Attendees are asked to gather at cemetery entrance by 10:45.
