

Don Hooten passed from this life and finished his race well on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Klondike, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Vernon Hooten and Lula Edna Brack; four sisters, LaVerne, Nettie Lee, Zelma, Helen, an identical twin brother, Caris and a great-grandchild Priscilla Joy Hooten. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1946 and served as the radio operator for Admiral C. W. Nimitz, the last fleet admiral of the Navy. He retired from Motorola GED in Scottsdale, Arizona where he worked on various government space programs that included the Apollo and Mariner projects. He has been a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Among many things, Don loved boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming and his puppies but above all, spending time with his beautiful wife, children and family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Kathleen; one son, David and wife Beth, of Lubbock, Texas and one daughter, Dianne Painter and husband Bill, of Georgetown, Texas. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; Matt and Tiffany Painter and son William of Georgetown, Texas; Lyndsey and Matt Miller, children Sydney and Layne of Bryan, Texas; Christa and Joe Gillis, children Joey, Maggie and Makayla of Purmela, Texas; Clay and Jessica L. Hooten, daughter Quinn of Farmers Branch, Texas and Coby and Jessica Hooten, children Keegan and Caleb of Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to Georgetown Church of Christ.
