

Donald Wayne Skiles was born on July 2, 1942, in Stanford, Texas, to Walter Ray Skiles and Lois Sorrell Skiles. He passed from this life October 17, 2025 in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone around him. His life reflected God’s love through his kindness, joy, and sense of adventure. His days were filled with laughter, meaningful moments, and a deep devotion to his family and faith.
Don and Gertie were united in marriage on November 27, 1993, in Gatesville, Texas, and shared 32 years together. Professionally, Don dedicated many years of his life to the automobile industry, working for a GM dealership in Gatesville. His commitment to hard work and integrity was a cornerstone of his character. He was also a devoted member of Westview Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught Adult Sunday School for 20 years.
In 2014, Don and Gertie embarked on a bold new chapter, relocating to Costa Rica in pursuit of fresh adventures. Their journey together led them around the world, with memorable travels to places like Cuba, Peru, Germany, Italy, and Ireland. Don’s lifelong love of music shone brightly. He was a gifted drummer who played with The Emeralds and later with the Costa Rica-based band Somebody Else. For Don, music was more than a hobby; it was a heartfelt means of connection and a joyful expression of the life he cherished.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 1 sister. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Gertie Griffith Skiles; children, Heather Robertson (Michael), Michaella Ellis (Charles), Jimmie Griffith, Stephan Griffith, Paul Griffith (Sandy) and Angie Perkins; Grandchildren, McCray, Garrett, Colby, Corbin (Rebekah), Cameron (Pernille), Caleb, Chloe and Analysa; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Camilla; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the IOOF Cemetery, located at 1117 E 7th Street, Georgetown, Texas.
His family invites all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating the life of a remarkable man whose kindness, humor, and generous spirit reflected the love of Christ to everyone he met. In the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him, his legacy of faith, love, and servant-hearted living will continue to shine as a testament to God's grace working through his life.
Though he is no longer with us, the light of his faith and the impact of his life will continue to inspire for generations to come. Donald Wayne Skiles will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family will forever be remembered.
