Donald S Voorhies, Jr, 81, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026. He was born in Georgia and raised in Islip, New York. He had fond memories of spending many weekends with his paternal grandfather fishing, swimming and digging for clams. Sunday dinners were often big family gathering with his maternal grandmother. Meals ended with a multiple choice of pies.
Don spent most of his adult years in Oswego, New York. He graduated from SUNY Oswego with both an undergraduate and graduate degree in Industrial Arts and Vocational Education. He chose to raise his family in Oswego.
Don had many interests. He enjoyed the backyard wildlife – birds, foxes and deer were the most common visitors. He also enjoyed fishing, the Sterling Renaissance Faire, motorcycles, and selecting children’s fabrics for the One Million Pillow Case challenge. He also had a sense of humor. He taught his grandchildren silly songs that made them laugh. He convinced co-workers to convert an empty cubicle into an Elvis Presley shrine.
He is survived by his loving wife and devoted care giver, Claudia; as well as his siters, Sarah and Margaret and their families. His children, Howard (Paula) and Mary (Philip) and four grandchildren, Yonathan, Nardos (Addisu), Mick and Leonard also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marth Voorhies.
Don’s family is thankful for the many years of care from Accent Home Health and Accent Hospice Care. The Georgetown EMS services rescued Don from several mishaps. We appreciate their efforts. Thank you to all.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in Don’s memory.
