Dee Iglehart was born in Oklahoma on September 30, 1921. She grew up in a loving family, was a gifted student, lived through the Great Depression, lost loved ones in World War II, attended the University of Tulsa and married her geology instructor, Charles Iglehart, with whom she had a wonderful and adventuresome life, often in pursuit of fossils and gems. They both shaved an enthusiasm for learning, a closeness to family and friends, and a fondness for travel that took them on many trips to Europe and around America, especially to the remotest and most beautiful places in the Rocky Mountains.
She was a loving mother to two sons. They will always remember the beautiful young woman who read to them so well, from the spellbinding Puss in Boots through the escapades of Winnie the Pooh to the tongue-twisting teasers of Dr. Seus, and launched them into lifetimes of reading on their own. Throughout their childhoods she provided them well, with hot meals every day and lots of desserts, imaginative Mardi Gras costumes of cowboys, mandarins, and magicians that she made herself, and a tender kindness that made friends wish she were their mother as well.
She learned from adversities, especially over the many years of her husband’s illness, when she grew in tolerance, sympathy, understanding, and kindness. She was a good friend and ally to everyone she knew. During her own illness she never lost her humor, sharpness, or concern for others. Toward the end she took stock of her 92 years and said she had had a very good life. We had a good life with her, and will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her sons, David Iglehart and Bruce Iglehart, her granddaughter Brooke Iglehart Frazier, her grandson Blake Iglehart, and by the families of her brother Mervil Tubbs, and her sister Lois Dunn.
A celebration of Dee’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the chapel of the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas.
Arrangements by Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512)863-2564.
